Oral administration of Nexium for the treatment of esophagitis (inflammation of the stomach) was recently evaluated in a clinical trial, and there were no significant differences in the efficacy or safety of the medication compared with placebo. The main objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of oral Nexium for treatment of esophagitis. This was a randomized, placebo-controlled, open study in patients (N = 40) with esophagitis who were admitted to the hospital for more than 3 days due to gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and other causes (eg, heartburn, erosive erosions).
This randomized, placebo-controlled, open, single-blind, single-center study included patients with GERD (≥ 5% of gastric acid), and other causes (eg, heartburn, heartburn/esophageal reflux, erosive erosions). Patients were randomly assigned to 1 of the following 3 treatment groups:N=4
The primary efficacy endpoint was the incidence of clinically meaningful events (CSEs) in the patients who were given the medication and not given the placebo. This endpoint was defined as a CSE occurring at least 3 days after the dose of Nexium. The CSEs were scored and defined as a 0 (no CSE) or a 1 (severe CSE). The number of CSEs that occurred during the period was then calculated and the number of CSEs needed to control the disease or disease relapse were also calculated.
The intention to treat analysis was the same in the placebo group and in the placebo group and was performed using the intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis. The primary endpoint was the incidence of CSEs, measured by the number of CSEs in the 2 weeks before randomization. The intention to treat analysis was performed using the intent-to-treat analysis of the difference of the incidence of CSEs in the patients who received the treatment group and not in the patients who were not in the treatment group. The incidence of CSEs was compared by the intention-to-treat analysis (ITT) of the difference in the CSEs in the patients who received the treatment group and not in the patients who were not in the treatment group.
The primary analysis was performed using the intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis, with the intent-to-treat analysis of the difference in the CSEs between the treatment groups and the difference in the incidence of CSEs in the patients who received the treatment group.

Nexium (esomeprazole) is a widely used and effective treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the acid production in the stomach.
Nexium is available as an over the counter (OTC) tablet, capsule, or gel form. It is a prescription drug and can only be obtained from a healthcare professional. The medication is a short-acting, non-hormonal tablet that is taken once daily and is taken with or without food.
Nexium is often prescribed for individuals with GERD. The medication is usually prescribed for adults to treat symptoms of the condition.
Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid production by blocking the production of proton pumps in the stomach. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
It is important to note that Nexium does not work against acid reflux and is not a substitute for lifestyle modifications. It may be more effective for individuals with more chronic conditions or those taking multiple medications.
In addition, Nexium may also help to reduce the risk of gastric cancer and heart disease.
Nexium is available in capsule form.
